Preferred languages

As the taxi and hire car industry regulator, the Taxi Services Commission (TSC) wants to ensure that the information we provide is clear and easy to understand.

From time to time, legal requirements mean that we need to provide technical information to you in letters and other forms of communication, which can sometimes be difficult to understand.

In trying to improve our communication with you, the TSC conducted a survey to identify the most common written languages (other than English) preferred by industry participants.

The TSC had a good response to the survey and industry participants told us they would like communications available in:

  • Punjabi
  • Hindi
  • French
  • Urdu
  • Macedonian
  • Mandarin
  • Russian
  • Amharic.

As a result the TSC provided translations of documents regarding changes to the hire car industry.

Information on the following has also been translated into Hindu, Punjabi, Arabic and Urdu:

  • public register
  • new licences
  • driver agreement and dispute resolution.
