Draft specifications for taxis

The Taxi Services Commission (TSC) invited comment from industry stakeholders and other interested parties on whether or not amending the specifications for taxis as described below would impose a significant economic burden on a sector of the public.

The draft:

  • removes requirements for boot releases, not for hire signs and other items to ensure alignment with the Transport (Buses, Taxi-Cabs and Other Commercial Passenger Vehicles) Regulations 2015; and
  • includes recent ad hoc amendments to specifications that supported taxi reforms (i.e. customer information, livery changes and advertising).

These draft specifications do not impose any new requirements on taxi operators.

Please note that a more comprehensive review of specifications is planned to commence August 2015 to further complement taxi reforms, including any impacts arising from a safety review being undertaken by the TSC.

Please see existing taxi-cab specifications which were gazetted 24 May 2007 - provided for comparison purposes.

Feedback for the draft specifications has now closed.
