Tips for taxi travel

Here are some tips to help you have a safe and enjoyable journey:

  • At the start of your trip, advise the driver where you'd like to go. Indicate your preferred route and how you'd like to pay.
  • Talk to your driver. Drivers are trained, accredited and licensed. Get to know them and they may give you some ideas on places to visit.
  • Travel in comfort. If you'd like the heater, air conditioner or music adjusted ask the driver. Refer to the Customer Charter for details on your rights and responsibilities.
  • Always get a receipt. It's a record of your fare and travel and will help if you've lost property, or wish to provide feedback.
  • Take down the cab number. All taxis have the number on the side, so take down the cab number in case you need to provide feedback.
  • Do the right thing. Taxis in Melbourne and large regional centres are fitted with safety cameras to make the taxi experience safer for passengers and drivers. It is recommended that you sit in the back seat if alone.

If you have any concerns about your safety, contact 000 for emergency assistance.
