Card restrictions

The Multi Purpose Taxi Program (MPTP) does have some limits and restrictions. Please read below for more information.

Card restrictions

You can't use your MPTP taxi card if the trip is:

  • covered by insurance
  • covered by another Government organisation, including:
    • the Transport Accident Commission
    • the Department of Veterans' Affairs
    • the Department of Education and Training
    • the Department of Human Services
    • any other Government organisation.

The trips aren't covered whether they are paid for directly by the government organisation or if you claim their cost back later.

Yearly limit

Members can travel in any licensed Victorian taxi and pay a subsidised fare. Members are entitled to a maximum subsidy of $60 per trip and a subsidy cap of $2,180 per financial year.

Members are exempt from the yearly subsidy cap limit if they:

  • use a wheelchair permanently outside of the home
  • have a disability listed on the Multi Purpose Taxi Program exemptions
  • have a Department of Veteran's Affairs Pensioner Concession Card that is endorsed with Extreme Disablement Adjustment (EDA) of Totally and Permanently Incapacitated (TPI).

What if I need more than $2,180?

If you require a higher limit you can apply for one. You can download the application form below.
