Taxi licence changes

Perpetual and fixed-term taxi licences were revoked on 9 October 2017 and a new annual taxi licence issued to the operator. All assignments have ceased.

The replacement annual licences have been issued with the same zone and type (conventional or wheelchair accessible) as the revoked licence as outlined in the table below.

All licence holders will receive a letter from the Taxi Services Commission which explains the changes.

There is no change to the licence category of current annual taxi licences.

Taxi licence scenarios for licence holders

If you owned and operated a perpetual or fixed term taxi licence, the following applies to you.

  • Your licence has been revoked.
  • You have been issued with a new equivalent annual taxi licence.
  • Your current vehicle details have been automatically attached to your new licence.
  • You have not been charged for this taxi licence change.
  • You will receive a letter and new licence certificate in the mail.
  • You can continue to operate your business as usual.

If you owned a perpetual taxi licence and assigned it to an operator, the following applies to you.

  • Your licence has been revoked and your assignment agreement has ceased.
  • Your previous assignee has been issued with a new equivalent annual taxi licence.
  • Your assignee’s current vehicle details have been automatically attached to their new licence.
  • You will receive a letter in the mail.
  • You can apply to purchase a low cost taxi licence if you have current operator or driver accreditation.

If you owned a perpetual taxi licence which was not assigned and was non-operational, the following will applies to you.

  • Your licence has been revoked.
  • You have been issued with a new equivalent non-operational annual taxi licence.
  • You will receive a letter and new licence certificate in the mail.
  • You will need to contact the TSC if you want to start operating your licence.

Taxi licence scenario for operators

If you are an operator and had a current assignment agreement with a licence holder on 8 October 2017, the following applies to you.

  • The licence you were operating has been revoked and your assignment agreement ceased on 9 October 2017.
  • You have been issued with an equivalent annual taxi licence and are now a licence holder.
  • Your current vehicle details have been automatically attached to your new licence.
  • You have not been charged for this taxi licence change.
  • You will receive a letter and new licence certificate in the mail.
  • You can continue to operate your business as usual.
