Special Purpose Vehicle licence

The Commercial Passenger Vehicle Industry Bill 2017 passed through the Victorian parliament on 10 August 2017. Information about the changes is available on the Industry reforms page.

As these changes will be taking effect in stages, low cost licences are not yet available to purchase.

Until further notice, existing licensing and assignment arrangements will continue to apply.

Special Purpose Vehicle (SPV) licences are issued specifically to cater for weddings and tours. These licences are only allowed to operate on a pre-booked basis.

'Weddings' includes taking passengers who are:

  • members of a wedding (e.g. bridal party) travelling during any part of the wedding ceremony/day (bride, groom and assistants to bride and groom)
  • travelling directly to or from a debutante ball or school formal.

SPV licences cost $2,000 (GST inclusive) per vehicle.

SPVs can be identified by the oval windscreen sticker including the vehicle's registration number (pictured below). The colour changes each year.
