Applying online for driver accreditation

Applying online is easy - just follow these six simple steps.

Step 1. Make sure you are eligible for driver accreditation

You can proceed to apply online and answer six questions to confirm you are eligible to apply for driver accreditation. You will not be able to proceed to the online application form unless you answer ‘yes’ to each question.

Step 2. Complete the online application form and verify your identity

Once you have completed the questions in Step 1, click on the button to access the online Application for driver accreditation.

You will first be asked to provide personal information and five years of address history, including overseas addresses if you have lived overseas in the last five years. The Taxi Services Commission requires this information to complete a National Police History Check (NPHC) on your behalf.

Next, you must verify your identify on the online application form.

You will need your Victorian driver licence and one of the following pieces of identification:

  • Australian birth certificate
  • Australian citizenship certificate
  • Australian passport*
  • International passport (with an Australian visa)*

* Passports may be current, or expired within the previous two years, but not cancelled.

Make sure have your current driver licence and your identity document handy when you complete the online form because you won’t be able to save your online application form and submit it at a later time.

You must pay the driver accreditation application fee online using only your MasterCard or Visa .

Step 3. Check your email inbox

Shortly after you remit your payment and submit the online Application for driver accreditation form, you will receive a confirmation email from no-reply@messaging.auspost.com.au. Do not reply to this email. The email tells you what you need to do next to progress your application, which includes uploading your Medical Assessment form.

If you do not receive the confirmation email within an hour of submitting your application, please check your junk and/or spam folders.

You are required to undergo a medical assessment as part of your driver accreditation application process.

Your confirmation email has a link to download the Medical Assessment form.

You may be required to provide us with additional supporting documents. This may include 100 points of identification documents, driver history documents or change of name document.

Please note: your confirmation email will advise you if you need to submit additional documents.

Taxi drivers are required to visit a VicRoads office to have their photo taken for the Taxi Services Commission Driver Identification Card.

Step 4. Complete your medical assessment

To ensure that applicants are medically fit to drive commercial passenger vehicles, the Commission requires all applicants to undergo a medical assessment as part of the driver accreditation process.

You are responsible for any costs you incur in completing the medical assessment.

Take your Medical Assessment form PDF, 54.5 KB and get your medical practitioner to sign it before you apply for driver accreditation. You can then upload your Medical Assessment form right after you have completed the online driver accreditation application form.

The medical assessment must be conducted in accordance with the national medical standards described in the current Assessing fitness to drive guidelines. These guidelines detail the examination process and the medical criteria for fitness for driving. Driver accreditation applicants must meet the commercial passenger vehicle driver standards.

Your medical practitioner must complete your Medical Assessment form following your medical assessment, in addition to signing it.

To avoid delays in processing your application, ensure your medical practitioner completes both sides of the Medical Assessment form and make sure you sign the Medical Assessment form before uploading it to the Commission.

Step 5. Submitting/uploading your Medical Assessment form to the Taxi Services Commission

You must upload the Medical Assessment form signed by you and your medical practitioner and any other documents requested by the Commission in your confirmation email. This may include 100 points of identification documents, driver history or change of name document.

Once we receive the results of your NPHC we will email you a copy of the results.

We do not begin to assess your application until it receives all of the required documentation. Make sure all documents have been signed and/or certified.

Step 6. Outcome of your application

We require 14 days to process your driver accreditation application after you have successfully uploaded all your documents. This depends, however, on the results of your medical assessment and your NPHC.

We will notify you of the outcome of your application as soon as your application assessment has been completed. If your application is approved, the Commission will mail your driver accreditation documents to you.
